Slymgee – Jae5 Essentials Mixtape

Slymgee continues to take bold steps with his art as he brandishes a new mixtape to celebrate one of the biggest producers creating waves in the music scene, Jae5.

The memories of his impeccable highlight on P.Priime’s solid catalogue are still fresh in the mind of listeners, who truly felt the vibrations and connected with Slymgee on his previous mixtape dubbed “P.Priime essential mixtape” released in February. The mixtape not only showed his disc jockeying prowess, but also showed his curative skill that fused together perfectly a host of songs in which production was helmed by the new age producer.

Things are set to take a new turn as he released his next body of work just two months after, and this time, his focus is on one of the pioneers of the Afro Swing/Bashment genre. Jae5 has been credited for production on songs owned by various superstars in the world including acts like: J Hus, Burna Boy, Stormzy, NSG, Dave, Skepta and many more.

Importantly, the mixtape begins with the reflective tone of Burna Boy’s “Bank On It” which serves as possibly the best intro because of the ease and tenderness it provides to bring in listeners into the mood of the tape, and when Jae5’s joint with Dave and Bnxn kicks in, the pace increases smoothly with an eye on ensuring a smooth and unharried transition. However, by the time we get to “Pray 2 The East” and “Love Made Me Do It”, goosebumps sets in and we are marvelled at the previous works Jae5 has done. The tape begins to come to a close with the Afroswing hall of fame record “Location” before Jae5 and Lojay’s “I wish” closes the tape just as it begins with a melancholic track.

This is surely a mixtape that will get listeners grooving because of the relaxed, mid tempo and easy vibe Afro Swing records emit, which is probably the bulk of the mixtape. While Afroswing has been praised for it’s ability to draw influences from all around into a deft blend that resonates into perfection, Slymgee’s pick of sixteen exceptional songs for a 30 minutes playlist is certain to influence your opinion of Jae5’s legendary status in the game as well as certify him as one of the best disc jockeys of the new era.
